You Can Give Your First Thought a Second Look

You cannot choose every first thought. You can sometimes choose what you do after noticing it.

A thought can arrive quickly, before we have considered whether it is accurate or helpful. I am not interested in making people feel guilty for what first enters their minds. I am interested in the opportunity to notice it. Is this a fact, an assumption, an old fear, or a passing reaction? You do not have to turn every thought into a decision. A pause can give you more room to respond thoughtfully.
