Let Your Tone Support Your Words

The words you choose matter. So does the way another person hears you say them.

You can have something honest and useful to say and still deliver it in a way that makes it difficult to hear. Tone, timing, and the willingness to listen all influence a conversation. I believe the goal is more than getting the words out. It is helping the other person understand what you mean. Pause long enough to consider how your message may be received. Clear communication can include firmness and respect at the same time.
